The Somali Community Association of Ohio is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to help Somali refugees and immigrants thrive in Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1996, SCAO is the leading voice for Somalis in central Ohio.
SCAO was founded in 1996 as the first organization in central Ohio dedicated to serving the Somali refugee community. As families fleeing conflict began arriving in Columbus, SCAO stepped forward to welcome them providing a familiar voice, culturally grounded support, and a pathway to self-sufficiency in a new homeland.
What began as a grassroots effort has grown into central Ohio's leading advocate and service provider for Somali immigrants. Since our inception, SCAO has served more than 10,000 individuals, walking alongside families through every stage of their journey from resettlement to citizenship, from first jobs to first businesses, from learning English to graduating college.
Since 1996, SCAO has been guided by one purpose: helping Somali refugees and immigrants thrive in Columbus, Ohio with dignity, opportunity, and community at the heart of everything we do.
